That is exactly what Mimi Mathis, Shea Mathis, and Simon Mathis are achieving through their heartwarming book ̶ Nursery Rhymes for Changing Times and A Short Story.

Mimi’s son, Shea Mathis, illustrated the Nursery Rhymes, and her grandson Simon co-authored and illustrated the short story “Fishing With Joe,” when he was ten years old. It is a delightful, catchy book with a powerful message about a young boy in a wheelchair who goes fishing for the first time in his life. It is packed with friendship, humor, reality, and a wonderful ending.

Storytelling is one of the most powerful ways to influence, teach, and encourage others. The stories in “About Giving Care” bring medical information and caregiving to life in a meaningful, connected way. The stories are penned with love and lessons about caring for older people. The authors are proud to say this book has inspired readers to become Caregivers.

The book is co-authored by Mimi Mathis R.N. and her granddaughter, Elise Mathis-Vannote. Another of her granddaughters, Lilly Mathis, illustrated the stories, and Mimi’s sister, Darene Bingham Loyd R.N., illustrated the book cover. Their collaborative intention for this project is to help light the path for a world predicted to have more older people than children by 2035.

The success of “About Giving Care” is measured by knowing the stories are helping others.

“For Our Three Sons” is a collection of files Mimi wrote and found in her computer’s recycle bin while clearing it out. She intended to delete the files, but when she read them, she became nostalgic, laughed, and cried like a crybaby, so she decided to save them as a book.
In most of the stories Mimi is the main character in her 70’s, and Jack, her husband of 52 years, is the hero.
